The Heart of Halifax Project

Do you have any memories or stories about the Public Gardens
that you want to share?

While the history of the Public Gardens is well-known through publications and historical records, lesser known is how people over the past 150 years have explored, enjoyed, and engaged with the Gardens. This social history project will see how Haligonians and visitors of all ages have experienced the Gardens!

The Heart of Halifax Project will commemorate the Gardens' sesquicentennial and calls on the public to share their stories, memories, and photographs that relate to the Halifax Public Gardens. All submissions will be archived and some will be displayed or shared on the Halifax Public Gardens 150th website in a digital archive. Submissions will also be used for research purposes by Claire L. Halstead, PhD for her research project entitled "150 Years as the Heart of Halifax: A study on Public Engagement and the Halifax Public Gardens", funded by the Suellen Murray Educational Bursary.

To share your stories, contact Claire Halstead, PhD at OR complete our online submission form!

Remember: any decade, any theme, and photos/postcards/scrapbooks are welcome!
